Need A Temporary Fix? Let’s Talk Flipper.

Author: Kimberly N. Powell, DDS, MS, FAGD

When you have a tooth extracted or a loose tooth, a flipper may be recommended. A flipper acts as an immediate temporary replacement for the missing tooth. It works like a removable partial as it is worn during the day and removed before bed and cleaned daily. The flipper is for esthetics, and for the posterior area, it helps maintain space for a permanent replacement such as a fixed partial denture, removable denture or an implant. It is not intended for your to eat with the flipper considering the nature of the material. Now, you may experience difficulty talking normally or fluid getting underneath it at times. It will take some getting used to, but it is to benefit and not to harm.
