Sports Guards

I hope you all are enjoying your summer days so far, and everyone in your family is having a fun summer break!This month we will be addressing the importance of wearing a sports guard while engaging in contact sports, such as basketball, football, soccer, boxing, martial arts, among others. A sports guard is a silicone device that can be custom made or generic (over the counter). It does cover the crown portion of the teeth, and it continues up over the gums towards the root area. The purpose of this appliance is to protect the teeth and supporting bone from the forces of impact and potential trauma while engaging in sports. The guard covers both dental arches and provides a barrier in between too and bottom teeth, so they won’t hit in the event of heavy impact. There are many designs and colors that can be found to your children ‘s liking. It is extremely important to remind your children to wear their guard while playing their favorite sport, it truly makes a big difference!
